SOFORT to be discontinued as of November 1st, 2024

SOFORT is an online payment method that allows for direct bank payments. It is particularly popular in countries like Austria, Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, and Spain. Despite being acquired by Klarna in 2014, SOFORT continued to operate independently. It later became part of Klarna's Pay Now service, enabling users to pay directly via their bank account or card for a seamless payment experience.

What is changing?

As of November 1st, SOFORT will no longer be available as a payment method, as Klarna is phasing it out. This means you will no longer be able to offer this payment method in your webshop. 

What are the alternatives?

As a replacement for SOFORT, you can offer Buckaroo’s Pay by Bank solution or alternative payment methods such as PayPal, Trustly, or Klarna Pay Now.

Pay by Bank

• If you wish to use Pay by Bank as a replacement for SOFORT, no additional actions are required. For now, consumers selecting SOFORT will be redirected to the Pay by Bank payment method.
• If you are using Buckaroo’s full checkout page, no further actions are needed either. The payment method will be replaced by Pay by Bank.
• If you are using a plugin, we recommend replacing the payment method as soon as possible.

Alternative payment methods

• To offer PayPal, Trustly, or Klarna Pay Now as an alternative to SOFORT, please contact your account manager.
